Scania Korea Unveils the New Super Truck: A Leap in Efficiency with 8% Fuel Savings

On the morning of the 31st, Scania Korea held a press conference at the Swiss Grand Hotel Convention Center located in Seoul’s Seodaemun District to announce the launch of their new product, the Scania Super. This event marked the first introduction of the Scania Super truck, which is equipped with the most efficient powertrain in Scania’s history, to the domestic market.

The Scania Super unveiled that day is a new model of truck developed with a focus on ‘sustainability’, born from five years of persistent research and investment amounting to approximately 2.9 trillion won. The Scania Super showcases top-notch efficiency with an ‘8% improvement in fuel economy’ over previous models. Its powertrain meets the industry’s most stringent current emissions standards, as well as future standards, and is expected to significantly enhance customers’ business profitability while contributing to carbon neutrality.

The 13-liter engine of the Scania Super is based on a new engine platform that offers a wide range of outputs from 420 horsepower to a maximum of 560 horsepower. In South Korea, products with outputs of 460, 500, and 560 horsepower will be released. The Super engine is designed with cutting-edge technology that enhances fuel efficiency by ensuring longer operating hours, extended service life, reduced maintenance, and weight reduction, thereby providing optimal operating economics.

This was made possible through substantial improvements in the engine’s combustion, lubrication, and cooling functions, in addition to turbocharging. Scania’s unique technology, including the twin SCR system, a newly designed dual overhead camshaft, and a powerful engine management system, has been integrated. Consequently, Scania has demonstrated its status as a leading company in sustainable transportation once again by showcasing industry-leading exhaust control technology.

A newly designed gearbox, featuring improved design and aluminum housing, has also been introduced in the Scania Super truck, achieving a weight reduction of 60kg compared to previous models. This lighter and quieter gearbox enhances fuel efficiency and ensures a more comfortable driving experience with quicker and smoother gear shifts due to lowered internal friction and a wider gear ratio.

Additionally, a new compression release auxiliary brake for stronger and smoother engine braking performance, as well as a fuel optimization device designed to use fuel in the fuel tank as efficiently as possible, has been introduced for the first time in the Scania Super model.

Scania Korea also presented service solutions that suit the Scania Super truck, including ‘Ecolution 2.0’ and a ‘Genuine Parts 2-Year Warranty Program’. Ecolution is a customized service solution that enhances vehicle operating efficiency and maximizes customer profitability through various advanced driving assist features and driver training. It has been updated for the super vehicle and released as Ecolution 2.0. The ‘Genuine Parts 2-Year Warranty Program’ extends the existing 1-year warranty period for genuine parts by an additional year, providing a total warranty period of 2 years. Following Scania UK, Korea is the second market to introduce this program.

Meanwhile, at the press conference, Jarko Ketola, who took office as the new representative of Scania Korea on the 1st, shared the core values and visions for the future of Scania Korea.

With nearly 30 years of experience at Scania Group, Representative Ketola expressed strong confidence in the Scania Super, stating, “Korea is the most important dynamic market in the Asia-Pacific region,” and added, “I am delighted to lead the Korean business as the representative of Scania Korea.” He further stated, “I will fully support our Korean customers in trusting and using Scania products in the future.”
