Tesla Korea Launches Extended Warranty Insurance Program: What’s In It for You?

Tesla Korea launched the Extended Warranty Insurance (EWI) program on July 3, making it the second country worldwide, following China, to offer additional warranty protection after the basic vehicle limited warranty expires.

Customers enrolled in the EWI program can extend their basic vehicle limited warranty (4 years/80,000 km) by an additional 4 years or 80,000 km. This means that after purchasing a new car, customers can receive coverage for up to 8 years or 160,000 km in total, which is among the best in the industry.

The EWI program is tied to the vehicle itself rather than the customer, reducing repair costs for the customer and helping preserve the vehicle’s resale value. Especially with the approaching expiration of the basic vehicle limited warranty for the Tesla Model 3, which accelerated the adoption of electric vehicles in Korea since its launch in 2019, the EWI program is explained as being a very attractive option for existing consumers by Tesla Korea.

To enroll in the program, some vehicles will need to meet prerequisites, such as passing a preliminary inspection and the basic vehicle limited warranty not having expired. Modifications, short-term rentals under 36 months, and commercial vehicles are restricted from joining.

The price of the EWI program varies based on the vehicle model and purchase timing and can be accessed through the Tesla app.
