Volkswagen Group Reports Record Electric Vehicle Deliveries in First Half of 2023

The Volkswagen Group delivered 321,600 electric vehicles to customers worldwide in the first half of this year.

This represents a 48% increase compared to the same period last year. The market share of electric vehicles in total vehicle deliveries increased from 5.6% last year to 7.4% this year. The group achieved the highest growth rate (68%) in the European market by delivering 217,100 electric vehicles, securing its position as a market leader in this region. In the U.S., electric vehicle deliveries rose to 29,800, a 76% increase. Despite a particularly competitive market environment, deliveries in China amounted to 62,400, about 2% lower than the previous year. However, buoyed by positive trends, the group delivered 18% more electric vehicles in the second quarter compared to the same period last year after experiencing a decline in the first quarter. Globally, the increase in the second quarter was 53%, totaling 180,600 vehicles delivered (compared to 118,000 in the same period last year), with electric vehicles making up 7.7% of total vehicle deliveries (up from 6.0% in the previous year).

Approximately 68% of the group’s electric vehicle deliveries took place in its home market of Europe, followed by China at 19% and the United States at 9%. The remaining 4% were accounted for by other markets.

As for the Volkswagen passenger car brand, it delivered 164,800 vehicles by the end of June, slightly exceeding half of the group’s total electric vehicle deliveries. Next were Audi with 75,600 vehicles (24% of the group total), Škoda with 31,300 vehicles (10%), SEAT/CUPRA with 18,900 vehicles (6%), Porsche with 18,000 vehicles (6%), and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles with 12,300 vehicles (4%).
