New Peugeot 408 Crowned Car of the Month by Korean Automotive Journalists

The Korean Automotive Journalists Association has selected the New Peugeot 408 as the Car of the Month for June 2023.

The Car of the Month is announced by the Association’s Car of the Year Selection Committee, which evaluates newly launched vehicles and refreshed models that were released during the month from the first to the last day.

The assessment consists of five categories: ▲ Interior and exterior design and sensory quality ▲ Safety and convenience features ▲ Power performance ▲ Energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions ▲ Marketability and purchase intention.

Among the new models showcased last month, the New Peugeot 408 and Hyundai Sonata The Edge (listed in alphabetical order) were nominated for Car of the Month, with a fierce competition leading to the New Peugeot 408 being ultimately selected with a score of 32.7 out of 50.

The New Peugeot 408 scored 8 out of 10 points in the interior/exterior design and sensory quality category, and recorded 6.7 points in the safety and convenience features category.

Chung Ji-yeon, chairperson of the Car of the Year Selection Committee, stated, “The New Peugeot 408 is a model that signals a new chapter in the C-segment (compact car class) with its unique silhouette and design. It boasts a forward-looking design, lively driving performance, and the versatility to enjoy the strengths of both a sedan and a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) along with modern equipment.”

Since 2019, the Korean Automotive Journalists Association has been selecting and announcing the Car of the Month, with Hyundai’s All-New Kona Electric receiving the honor last month.

The Association announces the results of this month’s Car selection through its official website. Vehicles selected as the Car of the Month receive a free pass to proceed directly to the first round of the final Car of the Year assessment, bypassing the preliminary evaluations for both the first and second halves of the year.

Meanwhile, the Korean Automotive Journalists Association consists of 55 media outlets, including leading daily newspapers, broadcasting companies, news agencies, online, and automotive specialist magazines, with over 200 journalists affiliated with member organizations.

Founded in August 2010, the Korean Automotive Journalists Association aims to contribute to the advancement of the automotive industry, promote a healthy automotive culture, improve the qualifications of automotive journalists, and enhance mutual exchange among members.

The Association annually selects and announces the “Car of the Year (COTY)” in South Korea’s automotive sector, holding various events such as symposiums and seminars to discuss ongoing automotive issues and explore solutions.
