Hyundai’s Ioniq 6 and Ioniq 5 Shine in Canadian Green Car Awards

Hyundai’s electric vehicles equipped with E-GMP have proven their exceptional eco-friendly values in the Canadian automotive market.

On the 15th, Hyundai announced that the Ioniq 6 was selected as the ‘2023 Canadian Green Car of the Year’ and the Ioniq 5 as the ‘2023 Canadian Green Utility Vehicle of the Year’, achieving a double win.

The Canadian Green Car of the Year award is organized by the Canadian Automotive Journalists Association and evaluates eco-friendly vehicles sold in the Canadian market based on factors such as charging time, driving range, and driving performance, through judging and voting by a panel of local automotive experts and journalists.

Earlier this month, the Canadian Automotive Journalists Association announced the final three candidates in the passenger and utility eco-friendly vehicle categories, and the Ioniq 6 was selected over the BMW i4 and Toyota Prius, while the Ioniq 5 triumphed over the Kia EV6 and Ford F-150 Lightning.

Following its win for ‘World Car of the Year’ at the 2023 World Car Awards in April, the Ioniq 6 has once again been recognized for its outstanding product qualities in Canada.

The Ioniq 6, the second dedicated electric vehicle model of the Ioniq brand, boasts the best aerodynamic coefficient of 0.21 among Hyundai’s historical models, with world-class electric consumption efficiency of 6.2km/kWh (based on 18-inch wheels, standard 2WD) and a generous driving range of 524km on a single charge (based on 18-inch wheels, long-range 2WD) as certified by the Ministry of Industry.

Additionally, it is equipped with a sleek aerodynamic exterior design, an optimally designed comfortable interior space focused on user experience, a variety of lighting technologies that allow interaction between car and passengers, dynamic driving performance, and cutting-edge safety and convenience features, showcasing excellent competitive strength.

The Ioniq 5, which was previously named ‘2023 Utility Vehicle of the Year in Canada’ and ‘2023 Electric Vehicle of the Year in Canada’, has solidified its position as one of Canada’s best vehicles by also winning in the eco-friendly utility vehicle category.

Developed on the E-GMP platform, the Ioniq 5 is the first dedicated electric vehicle of the Hyundai Motor Group, featuring unique and futuristic exterior design, innovatively designed interior space for versatility, a convenient and efficient fast charging system, a V2L (Vehicle To Load) concept for moving energy, various advanced driver assistance systems, and state-of-the-art infotainment specifications that exemplify its outstanding product quality.

A Hyundai representative stated, “The simultaneous awards for the Ioniq 6 and Ioniq 5 in the eco-friendly vehicle category affirm the outstanding eco-friendly product qualities of Hyundai’s E-GMP-based vehicles, and we aim to leverage this achievement to drive sales in the Canadian automotive market and continue to excel in the global market.”
