Hyundai Motor Group Launches Quality Certification Center for EV Charging Infrastructure

Hyundai Motor Group has partnered with the Korea Testing Certification (KTC), an internationally accredited testing organization, to establish a “Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Quality Certification Center (E-CQV)” aimed at the qualitative growth of the domestic electric vehicle (EV) market.

On the 19th of June, at the KTC headquarters in Gunpo, Gyeonggi Province, a ceremony was held to inaugurate the “Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Quality Certification Center (E-CQV)” with the attendance of key figures including Kim Heung-soo, Vice President of Hyundai Motor GSO (Global Strategy Office), Ahn Seong-il, Director of KTC, and Jin Jong-wook, Director of the National Technology Standards Institute. The group also announced plans to operate the “EV Charging Quality Certification System” as early as the end of the year.

Hyundai Motor Group and KTC are committed to supporting domestic charging equipment manufacturers in improving the quality of their chargers and enhancing customer satisfaction with EV charging, thereby revitalizing the charging ecosystem.

The establishment of the “Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Quality Certification Center (E-CQV)” will contribute to the expansion of charger distribution that customers can trust and use by establishing a credible certification system for charging equipment, ultimately enhancing the convenience of EV charging for users.

The “EV Charging Quality Certification System” consists of five standardized quality evaluation criteria, including charger durability and reliability, charging performance, security, communication compatibility, and electromagnetic compatibility. To ensure public interest and public service, it will be open to all manufacturers and charging service providers.

Hyundai Motor Group will actively reflect the quality verification systems and management know-how gained from the development and operation of the ultra-fast charging station, E-pit, in the “EV Charging Quality Certification System” and is also working on various services to secure the quality of the EV charging ecosystem.

KTC will provide the site, equipment, and facilities for the “Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Quality Certification Center (E-CQV)” and will be responsible for the overall operation of the “EV Charging Quality Certification System,” including conducting certification tests and issuing certificates.

Moreover, the “Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Quality Certification Center (E-CQV)” aims to provide integrated legal certification services for the global EV market, including North America and Europe, going beyond domestic legal certification support, helping charger manufacturers reduce the time and costs associated with obtaining certifications.

Support will be provided from the development phase of domestic chargers to ensure quality, enabling manufacturers to play a leading role in the global charging infrastructure market as mass production begins.

Kim Heung-soo, Vice President of Hyundai Motor GSO, stated, “The establishment of the Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Quality Certification Center (E-CQV) will ensure that customers can enjoy a reliable charging experience without worrying about malfunctions while charging their electric vehicles. In the future, Hyundai Motor Group plans to take the lead in fostering the qualitative growth of the charging ecosystem, enabling more customers to enjoy improved charging services anytime, anywhere without inconvenience.”

Ahn Seong-il, Director of KTC, emphasized, “As companies that seize the EV charging market ecosystem are expected to gain a competitive advantage in the future EV market, the importance of testing and certification for the safety and performance of EV charging infrastructure is increasing day by day. Through the Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Quality Certification Center (E-CQV), we will establish a safe and reliable verification system to support domestic companies in leading the global EV charging market.”
