The DB12 commands attention with its bold and distinct presence. The 4.0 twin-turbo V8 engine allows it to go from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.6 seconds, with a top speed of 325 km/h (202 mph). This hand-crafted engine has been tuned by Aston Martin engineers to boast an industry-high output of 680 horsepower (PS) at 6000 rpm. Torque surpasses the previous DB11 by 34%, producing 800 Nm from 2750 to 6000 rpm.

To achieve this high power, the DB12 is fitted with modified cam profiles, an optimized compression ratio, larger diameter turbochargers, and an enhanced cooling system. The cooling system has been entirely redesigned to effectively manage increased thermal demands. Two auxiliary coolers have been added to the main radiator, and a low-temperature radiator has been additionally fitted in the coolant circuit to maintain intake temperature under any circumstance.

To manage the demands on the lubrication circuit, the auxiliary external engine oil cooler has doubled its surface area compared to previous models. The area for air intake has also increased by 56%, effectively increasing the inflow of cold air to the radiator. Meanwhile, a bonnet vent positioned directly above the twin turbos helps to rapidly dissipate hot air.

An 8-speed automatic transmission delivers power, and for the first time, an E-Diff is equipped in the Aston Martin DB model. This combines with the ESC system to quickly switch between complete open and 100% lock states in milliseconds, providing the driver with consistent and precise handling.

Moreover, the latest ESC and E-Diff significantly enhance cornering performance. The DB12 offers extraordinary grip and traction at low and mid-speed corners on tough roads, while providing stability at high-speed corners, boosting the driver’s control and confidence.

To elevate driver engagement and performance, the DB12 applies a reduced final drive ratio of 3.083:1 and proprietary transmission calibration compared to previous models. The shortened final drive ratio enhances acceleration, while the transmission calibration caters to various driving modes, resulting in diverse shifting characteristics.

The DB12’s bonded aluminum structure enhances overall torsional rigidity by 7%, applied to body components like the engine cross brace, front and rear undertray, front crossmember, and rear bulkhead. This results in a concentrated strengthening of both torsional rigidity and side-impact strength. Particularly, the strut towers between the front and rear sides have seen a dual enhancement in rigidity, providing solid and stable connectivity for the dampers and rear axle. This improves suspension performance, insulation, precision, and overall driver connectivity.

Through the innovative design of key components such as the state-of-the-art intelligent adaptive dampers and stiffened anti-roll bars, the DB12 provides top-level driving dynamics and significantly improved performance.

The new adaptive dampers feature a bandwidth that has increased by 500%, enhancing control and finesse across DB12’s various driving modes. Aston Martin engineers have expanded this bandwidth to ensure that the DB12 can surpass competitive models.

The precise calibration of the dampers provides superior responsiveness and control in dynamic driving modes. Additionally, the sophisticated design of the suspension bushings enhances finesse and separation. With the combination of E-Diff and ESC, the GT mode allows for graceful yet agile cruising, while the Sports or Sports+ mode enhances feedback and control, intensifying the driver’s engagement and providing a lively driving experience even off-road.

Special attention has been paid to perfectly designing the electric power steering, which acts as the connection point between the car and the driver. The non-independent steering column has been implemented to provide a pure feed of steering input from the driver and feedback from the road without distortion, enhancing the dynamic experience.

The calibration of the electric power-assisted steering (EPAS) provides clear centering feedback and quick, natural responses while driving. The steering is designed to avoid being overly exaggerated or aggressive, offering an intuitive and confidence-inspiring touch. Drivers can feel comfortable during long drives while enjoying precision, responsiveness, and agility at top speeds.

For consistency and connectivity during driving, the electric power-assisted steering features a constant ratio rack of 13.09:1, variable speed-sensitive assistance, and a 2.4 lock-to-lock rotation. These variable assistance levels are integrated into all driving modes of the DB12, gradually reducing in the sportiest mode, Sports+.

To secure braking performance that matches rapid speeds, the DB12 is equipped with a cast-iron 400mm front disc and 360mm rear disc, improving thermal capacity. The brake booster has been redesigned to enhance the pedal response, providing immediate braking power and gradually adjustable feedback to instill driver confidence during driving.

In keeping with the reputation of a super tourer, the DB12 can be optionally equipped with carbon ceramic brakes. This enhancement improves braking performance, preventing fade up to 800°C. Custom carbon ceramic brakes reduce unsprung weight by 27 kg compared to standard brake systems, enhancing ride comfort and steering responsiveness.

The DB12 features the new Michelin Pilot Sport 5S tires (front 275/35 R21 103Y and rear 315/30 R21 108Y) as the first OEM fit. For those unsatisfied with the mass-produced versions, the DB12’s tires are marked with an ‘AML’ code, indicating they are bespoke and tuned by Aston Martin’s dynamics team to ensure maximum responsiveness and precise steering, providing the best grip on both wet and dry surfaces.

Additionally, the carcass of the Michelin Pilot Sport 5S tires is fitted with polyurethane foam to reduce the cabin noise transmitted from the tires, ensuring an elegant and comfortable driving experience.

The DB12 comes standard with 21-inch forged alloy wheels (front 9.5J, rear 10.5J). It features a basic five-spoke design, with optional choices available in multi-spoke and Y-spoke designs, allowing customization of colors and materials to suit individual tastes. The five-spoke is available in a single gloss silver color; the multi-spoke comes in three colors: satin platinum/satin black/satin black diamond; the Y-spoke offers satin bronze/satin black/satin black diamond options.

Aston Martin has optimized the lightweight wheel structure while ensuring no compromise in design. Utilizing cutting-edge simulation technology, unnecessary weight has been reduced, making the new design 8 kg lighter than its previous 20-inch wheels.

The DB12 is designed to provide unparalleled dynamic performance to the driver, incorporating the latest electronic stability program. This program supports four ESP modes: Wet, On, Track, and Off, via the ESP button on the center console. Each mode has been innovatively crafted so that the driver can engage them without noticing the ESP’s interventions.

The ESP system operates based on information collected from various vehicle sensors, with the newest being a six-axis inertial measurement unit. This complex accelerator data provides a real-time image of the current vehicle state, predicting available grip through advanced algorithms and responding to instantaneous instabilities.

Moreover, this program is designed to operate quietly in the background, helping the driver achieve the best driving experience without noticing the ESP’s engagement. The same predictive model-based technology is integrated across all of the vehicle’s chassis control systems, such as the anti-lock braking system (ABS), traction control, and electronic stability control functionality, enabling the driver to enjoy confident and thrilling driving.

Complementing the multiple ESP modes, the DB12 offers five driving modes: GT, Sport, Sport+, Individual, and Wet. The driver can incrementally adjust the dynamics to explore the limits of grip and traction. The Wet mode enhances stability on slippery surfaces, while in the Individual mode, the driver can customize the chassis, powertrain, ESP, and traction control systems to their preferences.

Driving modes can be easily selected from the center console via a rotary control, with individual adjustment buttons for chassis, ESP, and exhaust located at the lower left corner of the center console. This allows drivers to adjust the driving modes to their preferred settings.
