Inside Renault’s Design Vision: A Special Lecture by Vice President Gilles Vidal

On the 22nd, Renault Korea held a special design lecture by Gilles Vidal, Vice President of Renault Group, for students at the seminar room of the Welfare Center at Kookmin University in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul.

Gilles Vidal visited Korea to discuss the design strategy of new cars that Renault Korea is preparing, including a hybrid mid-size SUV scheduled for release next year. Renault Korea is currently focusing on strengthening its research and development capabilities centered on design, software, and electrification to prepare for future vehicles, including hybrid and electric cars.

This visit marks the second time Gilles Vidal has been to Korea, following his trip alongside Luca de Meo, Chairman of Renault Group, last year. During his visit, he engaged with about 100 students from Kookmin University’s Department of Automotive and Transportation Design and the Department of Automotive Engineering, providing a lecture on automotive design and answering their questions.

In this lecture, Gilles Vidal referenced concept cars that reinterpret Renault’s iconic model, the Renault 5, as electric vehicles, explaining the new design language that merges the heritage and futuristic advancements that Renault Group aims to pursue.

Since joining Renault Group in November 2020, Gilles Vidal, along with Vice President Laurens van den Acker, has been responsible for establishing the new brand identity and universe of the Renault Group in line with the company’s “Renaulution” management strategy. As part of this, last weekend, Renault Group unveiled the new flagship model, the coupe SUV Rafale, which features the latest design language led by Gilles Vidal.
