Hyundai IONIQ 6 Crowned ‘2023 Electric Vehicle of the Year’ by Car and Driver

The Hyundai IONIQ 6 has been selected as ‘Electric Vehicle of the Year 2023’ by the American automotive magazine Car and Driver.

This marks Hyundai’s second consecutive win for Car and Driver’s ‘Electric Vehicle of the Year’, following the IONIQ 5 last year.

The back-to-back wins for the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 highlight the excellence of Hyundai’s dedicated electric vehicles built on the E-GMP platform.

Car and Driver conducted a rigorous 3-week evaluation of 14 electric vehicle models, including the IONIQ 6, from brands such as Audi, BMW, Cadillac, and Mercedes-Benz. Among these, the IONIQ 6 emerged as the best electric vehicle, surpassing 13 competing models.

Notably, the competing models included electric vehicles built on dedicated platforms like ▲Audi Q4 e-tron (MEB) ▲Cadillac Lyriq (BEV3) ▲Mercedes-Benz EQE 350 (EVA2) ▲Lucid Air Pure (LEAP), further demonstrating the E-GMP’s superiority.

The evaluation focused on aspects such as ▲vehicle value ▲driving tests ▲new technologies applied to the vehicle ▲driving enjoyment, conducted by Car and Driver’s editors.

Tony Quiroga, the editor-in-chief of Car and Driver, stated, “The IONIQ 6’s win, following that of the IONIQ 5, proves that Hyundai is at the forefront of the global electric vehicle market. The IONIQ 6 is a vehicle with excellent marketability and technological prowess, featuring fast charging speeds and outstanding driving performance.”

Jose Munoz, Chief Operating Officer of Hyundai Motor Company and Head of North America, expressed, “It feels great to have the countless efforts put into completing the IONIQ 6, which boasts industry-leading aerodynamics, charging speed, and innovative features, recognized. This award will be a driving force for Hyundai to rise as a global leader in the electrification era and advance as a smart mobility solution provider.”

The IONIQ 6 is receiving much acclaim from global media and customers based on its high market competitiveness.

In April, the IONIQ 6 achieved a triple win, being selected as ‘2023 World Car of the Year,’ ‘2023 World Electric Vehicle of the Year,’ and ‘2023 World Car Design of the Year’ by the organizers of the World Car Awards.

In January, it was recognized for its outstanding safety by being selected as the ‘Best in Class’ vehicle in the ‘Large Family Car’ category by the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP).

Meanwhile, Car and Driver, founded in 1955, has been an influential automotive magazine not only in the United States but worldwide, conducting rigorous evaluations by editors on aspects like driving performance and vehicle value to select the ’10 Best Award winners’ and ‘Electric Vehicle of the Year’ among other assessments.
