Hyundai Motor Company is actively reinforcing its brand competitiveness in the Chinese market.

On the 18th (local time), Hyundai unveiled the Mufasa, a new compact SUV tailored for the Chinese market, at the 2023 Shanghai International Motor Show.

The Mufasa is a locally developed strategic model aimed at fiercely capturing the Chinese market, featuring a sophisticated design that reflects Hyundai’s design identity of ‘Sensuous Sportiness.’

With its stylish and innovative design, the Mufasa promises top-tier safety and convenience features, as well as spaciousness, delivering a distinct mobile experience akin to a ‘moving smart home SUV.’

At the front, the vehicle showcases a parametric pattern radiator grille, hidden daytime running lights, and vertical headlamps, creating an emotional yet innovative image, while the wide bumper design projects a robust and dynamic impression.

The side view completes the rugged SUV image with a long hood, short front and rear overhangs, and a long wheelbase, featuring voluminous fenders and straight character lines that draw attention with a solid and three-dimensional design.

The rear design incorporates a future-oriented oval-shaped rear combination lamp that expresses the vastness of space, emphasizing the unique presence and premium feel of the Mufasa.

The interior design presents a ‘Multi-Fun Zone’ concept, reflecting the needs of Chinese millennials who seek individuality by applying different design elements according to seating areas.

Each seating area—Driver Zone, Passenger Zone, and Relaxing Zone—features distinct design concepts and colors, creating a unique and inviting interior space.

Dimensions are as follows: Length 4,475mm, Width 1,850mm, Height 1,665mm, and Wheelbase 2,680mm.

The powertrain features a 2.0 gasoline engine with a maximum output of 160ps and a maximum torque of 193Nm.

In line with the ‘Moving Smart Home’ concept, the Mufasa offers a class-leading trunk capacity (451ℓ), a 6:4 folding rear seat, spacious interior, smart connectivity features, and dual 12.3-inch screens.

Additionally, it features an air purification system equipped with a PM 2.5 filter to maintain clean and pleasant air inside the vehicle, along with Bluetooth keys, a wireless smartphone charging system, and an electric tailgate, exemplifying a customer-centric approach with its advanced convenience features.

The Mufasa is also equipped with a host of advanced driver assistance systems, including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist – Junction Turning (FCA-JT), Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA), Navigation-Based Smart Cruise Control (NSCC), and Highway Driving Assist (HDA), ensuring top-level safety and driver convenience.

Hyundai plans to launch the Mufasa in the Chinese market in June this year.
