February Sales Surge for Korean Automakers: Insights and Highlights

The sales of domestic cars in February reached 125,240 units, marking a 19.6% increase compared to 100,523 units in the previous month. Although sales rose significantly from January, which saw a drastic drop due to the holiday season, Ssangyong’s figures decreased.

Hyundai sold 55,319 units, reflecting a 22% increase from the previous month’s 43,148 units. Hyundai’s best-selling model was the Porter, with 11,099 units sold—up 68.4% from 6,591 units in the previous month. The Grandeur recorded 9,817 units (7.5% rise), and the Avante achieved 6,336 units, up 3.9%.

Genesis experienced a rise in sales to 9,696 units, up 16.1% from 8,355 units in the previous month. The G80 recorded sales of 4,290 units, representing a 5.7% increase from 4,057 units. Meanwhile, the GV70 surged by 114.8% to 2,468 units, while the GV80 saw a decline of 11.1% with 1,673 units sold.

Kia recorded 50,105 units, up 29.3% from 38,753 units in the previous month. The Carnival sold 6,039 units, down 12.5% from 6,904 units. The Sportage slightly improved with 5,689 units, an increase of 3.6% from 5,492 units. The Seltos reported 5,552 units, up 64.9% from 3,366 units in the previous month.

Ssangyong recorded sales of 6,785 units, a slight decrease of 4.8% from 7,130 units in the previous month. The Torres dropped 11.6% to 4,813 units. Meanwhile, the Rexton Sports saw a significant increase of 84.8% with 1,290 units sold. The Tivoli sold 240 units, marking a 46% decline from 632 units last month.

Renault Korea saw a small increase to 2,218 units from 2,116 units in the previous month, up 4.8%. The XM3 sold 977 units, down 4.1% from 1,019 units last month. The QM6 recorded 938 units, reflecting a 7% increase from 877 units. Meanwhile, the SM6 grew to 241 units, up 9.5% from 220 units.

GM Korea recorded 1,117 units sold, a 9.4% increase from 1,021 units in the previous month. The Spark reported 392 units, marking a 26.5% increase from 310 units last month. The Trailblazer recorded 380 units, down 11.6% from 430 units. The Colorado sold 98 units, down 8.4% from 107 units. GMC Sierra made its debut with 63 units sold.

In summary, Korean automakers showed a robust performance in February, with notable gains from Hyundai and Kia, while Genesis and others faced varying fortunes in the market.
