The Volvo EX90: A Game Changer in Electric Vehicles

“The EX90 is a game changer in the electric vehicle market equipped with various safety technologies,” said Jim Rowan, CEO of Volvo Group.

On the 14th, Volvo Korea held the event ‘A New Era of Volvo Cars’ at the Shilla Hotel in Jangchung-dong, Seoul. The event was attended by Volvo Group CEO Jim Rowan and other executives, including Bjorn Annwall, Chief Commercial Officer of Volvo.

The spotlight of the event was undoubtedly on the EX90, Volvo’s first large electric SUV. Chief Operating Officer Javier Varela stated, “The EX90 combines Scandinavian design with core computing technology and is equipped with lidar sensors.” Furthermore, Javier explained, “Lidar can detect everything up to 250 meters ahead even in darkness.” The EX90 is equipped with eight cameras, 16 sensors, and five lidars, allowing it to perceive all movements in front and outside in total darkness.

The battery capacity has also significantly increased, enhancing efficiency. It can drive more than 600 km on a single charge (according to WLTP standards). Considering that most imported electric vehicles receive certification within 70% of their battery capacity under the demanding standards of the Korean Ministry of Environment, the EX90’s certification is expected to be around 420 km.

Furthermore, Bjorn expressed strong confidence regarding the EX90, stating, “With the application of such advanced safety features, we expect the probability of accidents to decrease by 19%.”

Jim Rowan emphasized that the EX90 is “a pure electric vehicle featuring unique Scandinavian design, with sensors, cameras, lidar, and connectivity integrated into one model that will be a game changer in the electric vehicle market.”

The EX90 is set to launch in the domestic market by the end of this year, with vehicle deliveries proceeding to reservation customers starting in the first half of next year.
