Volvo Leads Digital Innovation with Integrated TMAP Infotainment Service

Volvo Car Korea is taking the lead in differentiated digital innovation unique to the Swedish luxury brand through the advanced TMAP infotainment service.

Volvo is the first automotive brand to integrate an infotainment system powered by Android into its cars. Volvo Car Korea has invested 30 billion won to optimize the South Korean market as the first import car brand, developing an advanced infotainment service that integrates TMAP Auto, NUGU Auto, and FLO based on Google Android Automotive OS together with TMAP Mobility.

This service was first introduced in the best-selling Volvo SUV, the XC60, launched in the second half of 2021, and is now standard across all models currently on sale in South Korea, continuously providing a new digital customer experience that feels closer to a smart device.

In the future, Volvo customers will be able to make in-car payments using cards registered in TMAP, and, through 15 years of free OTA-based updates, they will experience a range of features including Wave (OTT services), web browsing capabilities, and an enhanced EV-specific system all at once.

Additionally, with the establishment of an app store, various features such as news, podcasts, and audiobooks will be added sequentially, further enhancing customer convenience. The new Volvo EX90, set to be unveiled by the end of this year before its release next year, is expected to feature an advanced version of the ‘TMAP infotainment system’ tailored for the South Korean market, including TMAP’s HD maps.

Javier Valle, Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of Volvo Car, stated, “The ‘Integrated TMAP Infotainment Service’ is the height of Volvo’s advanced digital leadership, created with the priority of providing differentiated digital customer experiences specifically for Korean consumers. We also plan to strengthen partnerships with notable global partners, including TMAP Mobility, to drive innovation in future technologies for the brand.”

The TMAP infotainment service is characterized by integrating TMAP Auto, NUGU Auto, and FLO, based on Google Android Automotive OS.

With just voice recognition, users can access various functions such as ▲ Navigation settings ▲ Vehicle controls like interior temperature and heated seats ▲ FLO music exploration ▲ Sending phone calls and texts ▲ Searching for lifestyle information ▲ Controlling smart home devices like lighting, air conditioning, and robotic vacuums at home with NUGU Smart Home. Moreover, the coupe-style pure electric SUV, ‘C40 Recharge’, and the brand’s first electric vehicle, ‘XC40 Recharge’, feature TMAP infotainment functions with electric vehicle-specific algorithms.

In addition, Volvo Car Korea offers the ‘Volvo Cars app’, which allows users to utilize digital key functions through their smartphones, a digital concierge service to support in real-time any issues that arise during driving, and ‘Volvo Assistance’. Furthermore, customers receive 5 years of LTE data, 1 year of FLO usage, and 15 years of OTA updates as standard, thereby delivering a digital connectivity experience aimed at improving the lives of customers in South Korea.
