Unveiling the McLaren 720S GT3 EVO: A New Era in Motorsport Excellence

McLaren Motorsport has unveiled the new 720S GT3 EVO. Based on the remarkable success of the 720S, which has captured attention with outstanding achievements in international GT3 racing, the 720S GT3 EVO has been designed for the 2023 season and beyond. The model is set to pass certification for the 2023 season.

The 720S GT3 EVO benefits from the achievements and technological expertise gained from McLaren’s other race car, the 720S GT3, which debuted in its first GT3 race. It aims to continue the reputation of GT racing cars alongside various drivers and teams, including the top-ranked new Artura GT4, which recently competed in international racing tournaments in Daytona.

Distinctive features of the 720S GT3 EVO include several key body parts like the front bumper and splitter, now equipped with quick-release lock mechanisms for easy removal and replacement. Additionally, aerodynamic improvements have been made to enhance overall downforce, focusing on maintaining consistent performance during driving.

Moreover, the Gurney attached to the front bonnet aids in maintaining the vehicle’s balance while improving cooling performance. The repositioned auxiliary lamps increase visibility during long-distance night races.

The rear wing pylon can be easily adjusted, allowing increased downforce without disrupting overall balance.

The suspension system of the 720S GT3 EVO has also been significantly improved. Key features include a completely new TTX40 Ohlins four-way adjustable damper with a high-frequency piston, along with adjustable length. The upper wishbones have been altered in both front and rear sections. The front features tire management options that increase droop, while the rear geometry has been enhanced for better adaptation to uprights.

The uprights have also undergone redesign. The front is designed with unit-bolted brake systems and integrated track rod clevis that allow for rapid changes even during tight racing. The rear uprights have also been improved to accommodate tire management geometry options. The brakes of the 720S GT3 EVO utilize a closed-face bell for enhanced disc durability.

The 720S GT3 EVO is now available for orders, and owners of the 720S GT3 model can choose between options that use the previous hub units or a complete update kit that includes a full upright assembly.

Ian Morgan, Director of McLaren Automotive Motorsport, stated, “The McLaren 720S GT3 made an astonishing debut in GT3 racing four years ago, maintaining a long-standing lead in the Gulf 12 Hours race. Since then, it has achieved numerous race victories and championships, and recently secured titles in the Asian Le Mans Series, IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, and GT World Challenge Europe last year.” He further emphasized, “In 2023, we kicked off the season with a podium finish at the Daytona 24 Hours race.

“We have closely collaborated with customer racing teams to incorporate their many suggestions into the EVO package, enhancing both performance and usability. As a result, the McLaren 720S GT3 EVO will continue to be a frontrunner in GT3 racing for years to come,” he concluded.
