Volkswagen Celebrates Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania with Blockbuster Event

On the 15th of last month, Volkswagen Korea successfully hosted a movie night event at the Yongsan Cinedus Chef to celebrate its global content campaign collaboration with Marvel’s third installment of the Ant-Man series, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

The event, held in alignment with the official release date, welcomed over 120 journalists and influencers for a night filled with entertainment, including a movie screening and photo events with the Ant-Man and Wasp characters, garnering enthusiastic responses from attendees.

Before the screening, Sasha Asadkijian, President of Volkswagen Korea, took the stage to discuss the brand’s achievements and future directions. “Volkswagen Korea achieved an excellent milestone last year by ranking fourth in the total import vehicle market, recording sales of 15,791 units, which is a 10% increase compared to the previous year. This year, we aim to create another great story by strengthening our lineup, starting with the successful launch of the Touareg,” he stated.

Furthermore, Sasha added, “The ID.4, Volkswagen’s first electric SUV, achieved the number one spot in imported electric vehicle sales within just two weeks of its launch last September. It is truly our ‘hero model’ in the real world. As many domestic customers are waiting for the ID.4, we are making every effort to provide it as quickly and in larger quantities as possible. We hope to meet the ID.4 in Korea by mid-year.”

Following that, an advertisement co-produced by Volkswagen and Marvel Studios screened, eliciting laughter from the attendees. The ad featured the protagonist Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) as his daughter, Cassie (Kathryn Newton), sneaks away by shrinking herself, all while capturing the essence of the ID.4 GTX. The ad cleverly ended with the phrase, “(The real vehicle) does not have a size-reducing feature,” adding a humorous touch.

The ID.4 GTX is a performance version of the pure electric SUV ID.4, which was launched in Korea last September. It is the first high-performance model in the ID. family. Like the ID.4, it is built on Volkswagen’s modular electric drive platform (MEB) and is equipped with a dual motor and all-wheel drive (AWD) system for the first time. The ID.4 GTX is powered by a 77kWh battery, delivering a range of up to 480 km according to WLTP standards on a single charge, with the ability to cover approximately 300 km in about 30 minutes of charging at a fast charge rate of 125 kW. It reaches 0 to 60 km/h in 3.2 seconds and 0 to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds.

Meanwhile, the film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (directed by Peyton Reed) follows the Ant-Man family as they venture into the unknown world of the ‘Quantum Realm,’ facing off against Kang, the most formidable villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), who rules the infinite universe. This superhero sequel is set to be the first Marvel blockbuster of 2023.
