Polestar 2 Crowned Best-Selling Electric Car in South Korea for 2022

The Polestar ‘Polestar 2’ recorded the highest sales among single electric vehicle models according to the 2022 statistics from the Korea Imported Automobile Association.

According to the Korea Imported Automobile Association, a total of 23,202 imported electric vehicles were sold in 2022.

This represents a remarkable growth of 266% compared to the previous year (6,340 units), indicating a clear upward trend in the domestic electric vehicle market. Among these, a total of 2,794 Polestar 2 units were sold, achieving the top sales for a single imported electric vehicle model in its first year of release.

The reasons for the Polestar 2’s popularity in the fiercely competitive Korean imported electric vehicle market include its restrained yet luxurious design reflecting Scandinavian minimalism, exceptional safety recognized in major countries like Europe, the US, and Australia, and outstanding product features such as the T-map infotainment system, which is applied for the first time in an electric vehicle.

In a recent survey conducted by Polestar Korea among Polestar 2 buyers, 29% of respondents cited ‘design’ as their reason for purchasing the Polestar 2. This was followed by ‘safety’ (22%), ‘product quality’ (16%), and ‘convenience’ (15%).

98% of buyers trust the safety of the Polestar 2, attributing this to its advanced safety systems and the highest safety ratings obtained in overseas markets such as Europe, the US, and Australia.

Ham Jong-sung, the CEO of Polestar Korea, said, “Achieving the top sales for a single imported electric vehicle model in the first year is a valuable achievement, but I take great pride in the fact that the Polestar 2 is leading the change in a rapidly transitioning sustainable era.” He added, “Throughout this year, we will expand customer engagement through nationwide exhibitions and test-drive events. Our top priority will be customer satisfaction, focusing on not just the product, but also tailored consumer experiences to further solidify our position as a premium electric vehicle brand.”
