BMW’s New 7 Series Named January’s Car of the Month

The Korean Automobile Journalists Association has selected the BMW New 7 Series as the Car of the Month for January 2023.

This month’s car is chosen by the Selection Committee for the Car of the Year, which evaluates new cars and partially modified models released from the 1st to the end of the previous month.

The evaluation consists of five criteria: interior/exterior design and emotional quality, safety and convenience features, power performance, energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions, and marketability and purchase intention.

Among the new cars introduced last month, the Land Rover All-New Range Rover Sport, BMW New 7 Series, Jeep All-New Grand Cherokee, and Volkswagen New Golf GTI (listed in alphabetical order) were nominated for Car of the Month. After fierce competition, the BMW New 7 Series was ultimately selected as the Car of the Month with a score of 38.7 out of 50.

The BMW New 7 Series received a high score of 9.0 out of 10 in the safety and convenience feature category and scored 8.0 in both the interior/exterior design and emotional quality, as well as the power performance categories.

Lee Seung-yong, president of the Korea Automobile Journalists Association, stated, “The New 7 Series is a completely redesigned seventh generation model that emphasizes luxurious aesthetics and has adopted a new entertainment system that carries on the values unique to BMW’s flagship sedan.” He continued, “The theater screen, which is standard on all models of the New 7 Series, features a 31.3-inch panoramic display entertainment system, capable of directly launching Netflix and YouTube, allowing for resource playback and offering a new digital experience.”

The association announces the Car of the Month selection results through its official website. The vehicles selected as the Car of the Month receive a special exemption, allowing them to directly advance to the first round of the final evaluation scheduled for February 2023 without going through the first and second half evaluations of the Car of the Year.
