Peugeot Unveils the Revolutionary Inception Concept at CES 2023

On January 5th local time, Peugeot unveiled the “Inception Concept” at the 2023 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, marking a significant step in shaping the brand’s future vision.

On this day, Peugeot CEO Linda Jackson introduced the Inception Concept, which epitomizes the brand’s vision of aiming to become the premier electric car brand by 2030.

Linda Jackson stated, “Peugeot is dedicated to electrification. Starting this year, we will apply electrification to all our lineups and launch five new all-electric models over the next two years. Our goal is simple: to make Peugeot the best electric vehicle brand in Europe by 2030. This vision is articulated through the Peugeot Inception Concept, which marks the beginning of a new era. “

The term ‘Inception’ derives from Latin, meaning ‘beginning’. It embodies Peugeot’s serious declaration and commitment to prepare for a new era. The Inception Concept offers innovative technology and a unique automotive experience.

While the Inception Concept retains Peugeot’s signature cat-like appearance, it reinterprets this for a new era. This new design language will be introduced in upcoming Peugeot vehicles from 2025.

The exterior is captivating, featuring a massive glass surface that stretches from the front to the roof and rear. This glass surface addresses thermal and UV blocking issues through special treatment. The front fascia adopts the all-new Peugeot light signature, integrated with three iconic claws, unifying the entire front grille and signature components while embedding sensors. In the center, a logo with a 3D luminous effect shines brightly.

The doors serve as a communication medium, featuring a tech bar that spans horizontally across them, displaying various messages externally as the driver and passengers approach the vehicle. In addition to standard welcome and farewell messages, it also indicates battery charge levels while allowing for personalized interior settings based on driver recognition.

The Inception Concept is designed on the “STLA Large Platform,” one of Stellantis Group’s pure electric vehicle platforms. This platform, engineered for electrification, facilitates a complete reconfiguration of the interior, providing a low yet efficient silhouette that measures up to 5 meters in length.

The interior introduces a new vision for grand touring, repositioning seat arrangements for a unique driving experience. A high beltline serves as a safety brace while low-mounted seats offer more spacious accommodations for all passengers.

Passengers can enjoy tailored ride comfort suited for dynamic driving or relaxation. Additionally, the innovative approach of minimizing the dashboard makes it difficult to find one. The cockpit, left with only essential functions, is positioned lower for an unobstructed view for the driver.

Peugeot also revealed the “Hyper Square Control System,” which will debut in the next-generation i-Cockpit. This system replaces traditional steering wheels and buttons, and is controlled through a central screen and circular modules placed at each corner. It incorporates Stellantis’s STLA Smart Cockpit technology platform. The next-gen i-Cockpit will combine with a “Halo Cluster,” providing information about pedestrians approaching from all directions while driving. When switching to level 4 autonomous mode, the Hyper Square disappears, replaced by a large panoramic screen that emerges from the vehicle’s lower section, creating a new driving experience.

The all-electric Peugeot Inception Concept features an 800V system. With a 100kWh battery, it can travel up to 800km on a single charge.

Its efficiency is remarkable, pegged at only 12.5kWh per 100km. The battery charges up to 30km in one minute and 150km in five minutes. Wireless charging without cables is also an option. Two electric motors, installed at the front and rear, deliver dynamic all-wheel-drive performance, producing a combined output of 680 horsepower (500kW), reaching 100 km/h from a standstill in under 3 seconds.

Mathias Hossan, Peugeot’s design director, remarked, “Peugeot is evolving, but the Inception Concept still embodies the essence of Peugeot. It showcases our optimistic vision for the future of automobiles and the emotions they can evoke. Radiant with light, the Inception Concept illustrates our goal to cut Peugeot’s carbon footprint by more than 50% by 2030 while reinventing the spatial experience of driving.”
