Introducing the New Luxury Electric SUV: The Mercedes-Benz EQS 450 and 580 4MATIC

Mercedes-Benz Korea officially launches the luxury electric SUV, the ‘New EQS SUV’.

The New EQS SUV, developed based on Mercedes-Benz’s dedicated electric vehicle architecture ‘EVA2’, is the first luxury SUV model of its kind, which was globally unveiled through a digital world premiere last April.

With a dynamic yet aerodynamic exterior design, spacious seating for up to 7 passengers, luxurious interior, and excellent driving performance both on and off-road, the New EQS SUV is recognized as a pioneer in the luxury electric SUV market.

The domestic market will see the launch of the standard models, the ‘New EQS 450 4MATIC SUV’ and ‘New EQS 580 4MATIC SUV’, alongside the celebratory launch editions to commemorate the release of the New EQS SUV.

Moreover, on the 20th of this month, a special anniversary model called the ‘New EQS 450 4MATIC SUV Online Special’ will be launched exclusively at the Mercedes Store.

Johannes Shun, Vice President of Product, Marketing and Digital Business at Mercedes-Benz Korea, stated, “The New EQS SUV is the first large electric SUV introduced in the domestic electric vehicle market. It is the largest and most luxurious electric vehicle we have unveiled so far, boasting powerful and stable driving performance in any situation. We expect the New EQS SUV to showcase the future of luxury that Mercedes-Benz customers have been seeking.”

The New EQS SUV is the largest among Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles, showcasing a dynamic proportion and sportiness while maximizing aerodynamic efficiency.

As a large SUV model accommodating up to 7 people, the New EQS SUV shares the same wheelbase (3,210 mm) as the luxury electric sedan EQS but is over 20 cm taller, designed with a rear C-pillar for a spacious interior. Additionally, large wheels measuring 21-22 inches enhance its muscular shoulder section, adding to the sporty and robust appearance.

The side profile flows from a rounded front end through the steep A-pillars and roofline to the rear spoiler, creating a dynamic yet smooth silhouette. Additionally, reduced connection areas and details such as flush door handles contribute to a seamless aerodynamic design, enhancing driving efficiency while embodying Mercedes-Benz’s design philosophy of ‘sensuous purity’.

The interior of the New EQS SUV offers a spacious atmosphere along with various convenience specs that satisfy all passengers, providing a luxury lounge feel.

The second-row seats, which are electronically adjustable, can move up to 130 mm forwards and backward, providing a legroom space ranging from 830 mm to 960 mm for a comfortable experience. In addition, optional third-row seats are available for up to 2 people, accommodating a total of 7 passengers. The trunk space is also generous, expanding up to 2,100 liters, allowing five passengers to carry four golf bags when the third-row seats are folded down.

The New EQS SUV has achieved advanced digitization even within its interior. The MBUX Interior Assistant recognizes the movements and gaze of the driver and front passenger, helping to intuitively control the vehicle. The zero-layer interface learns driver behaviors with AI, presenting necessary functions on the display screen in a customized format. The EQS 580 4MATIC SUV comes standard with the innovative MBUX Hyperscreen that integrates three displays into one, providing passengers with a higher level of digital experience.

Rear seat occupants can also experience distinct luxury in the New EQS SUV.

The standard rear seat comfort package includes power-adjustable backrests along with seat heating adjustable across three intensities, comfort armrests, and luxury headrests to offer maximum comfort and ride quality.

Additionally, both the EQS 450 4MATIC SUV Launch Edition and EQS 580 4MATIC SUV come equipped with an MBUX high-end rear seat entertainment system featuring two 11.6-inch full HD touchscreens and a 7-inch MBUX rear tablet, allowing rear passengers to directly control the vehicle’s media and entertainment functions, as well as connect devices like smartphones and laptops via Bluetooth or HDMI for more diverse content consumption.

The EQS 580 4MATIC SUV Launch Edition features an exclusive Nappa leather package that maximizes first-class luxury. The seats are outfitted with Napa leather in Nebula Gray and Biscay Blue, while the dashboard and beltline are accented with rose gold stitching, emphasizing a high-end mood.

Both the New EQS 450 4MATIC SUV and EQS 580 4MATIC SUV are equipped with a 107.1 kWh battery and Mercedes-Benz’s battery management software, allowing for maximum ranges of 459 km and 447 km on a single charge according to domestic certification standards, respectively. The battery installed in the New EQS SUV supports fast charging of up to 200 kW, enabling a charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 31 minutes during fast charging.

The entire EQS SUV lineup is equipped with a 4MATIC all-wheel drive system that distributes torque between the front and rear electric motors in the most optimized manner based on driving conditions.

The EQS 580 4MATIC SUV boasts a powerful output of 400 kW and maximum torque of 858 Nm, showing the strongest performance among Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles, excluding AMG models.

The New EQS SUV is equipped with AIRMATIC air suspension that utilizes a finely responsive adaptive damping system to control each wheel individually based on driving mode, speed, and load, providing stable driving and comfortable riding across varying road conditions.

Additionally, the Dynamic Select feature includes driving modes such as Eco, Comfort, and Sport, as well as an Off-Road driving mode, allowing for modifications to motor, ESP®, suspension, and steering characteristics based on the driving mode. The Off-Road mode, the first to be applied in Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles, provides an optimized driving system for unpaved roads and inclines. Depending on driving speed, the ride height can be increased by up to 25mm, minimizing slip for wheels at high risk of spinning while still allowing sufficient slip for traction, making vehicle control both safe and easy.

The New EQS SUV offers four regenerative braking modes through paddles located behind the steering wheel, including 3 energy recovery levels (D+, D, D-) and a D Auto mode that automatically sets optimal regenerative braking depending on the situation. ▲D+ allows for the lowest level of regenerative braking for coasting, ▲D provides mild regenerative braking, while ▲D- offers the most powerful regenerative braking, and ▲D Auto mode adjusts regenerative braking as per the driving conditions.

All EQS SUV models come standard with rear axle steering with an angle of up to 4.5°, making body maneuvering agile and easy. The steering angle can be increased to 10° via wireless updates, either during the initial vehicle order or through the Mercedes me Store.

The New EQS SUV is equipped with a plethora of advanced driver assistance systems from Mercedes-Benz, along with high-end convenience features befitting a luxury electric SUV.

The driving assistance package plus, featuring advanced driver assistance systems, comprises a sensor system that intelligently connects cameras, radar, and ultrasonic sensors to analyze the surround environment, providing assistance at the necessary moments for speed control, lane changing, and steering. Additionally, pre-safe systems minimize occupant injuries by detecting potential hazards before they arise, and pre-safe impulse side systems protect front seat passengers during side collision detection, securing passenger safety in an accident.

The remote parking package, standard on the EQS 580 4MATIC, monitors the parking process externally via 12 ultrasonic sensors, a 360-degree camera, and active parking assist, aiding drivers in conveniently maneuvering into and out of parking spaces via smartphone controls. Furthermore, the augmented reality (AR) MBUX AR head-up display provides intuitive road information across an expanded display area compared to traditional head-up displays.

The New EQS SUV features an air purification package that includes a large HEPA filter, effectively cleansing the cabin air. The HEPA filters, certified under the ‘OFI CERT’ ZG 250-1 standards by the Austrian Research and Testing Institute, filter out external pollutants such as fine dust and pollen, neutralizing unpleasant odors within the vehicle via activated carbon coating.

In addition, features such as the Energizing Package Plus, which organically adjusts indoor temperature, lighting, music, and seating for an optimal driving environment, the air balance package with various fragrances including the No.6 mood mimosa developed exclusively for the New EQS SUV, the acoustic comfort package that reduces external noise through special membrane glass, reinforced felt, and additional insulation, and the Burmester surround sound system that elevates audio experiences to a new level with 15 speakers, all contribute to a differentiated experience suitable for a luxury electric SUV.

Moreover, a variety of elegant features including MBUX augmented reality navigation, active ambient lighting, multi-contour front seats with heating and cooling functions, panoramic sunroof, Keyless-Go package, and wireless charging system come as standard, enhancing convenience for drivers.

The lineup and key specifications along with consumer pricing of the New EQS SUV are presented in the table below.
