Unplugged Power: The Jeep Grand Cherokee 4Xe Takes the Spotlight

“The Grand Cherokee 4Xe can commute solely on electric power,” says Billy Hayes, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Jeep’s Asia Pacific region. The Grand Cherokee 4Xe can travel 33 kilometers on battery power alone when fully charged.

Considering the average commute distance of regular office workers is around 15 kilometers, the Grand Cherokee 4Xe can be utilized in daily life without engine intervention as an electric vehicle. Hayes emphasized, “While the Wrangler 4Xe’s ECU (Electronic Control Unit) is configured for off-road driving, the Grand Cherokee 4Xe, while also highlighting its off-road capabilities, is tuned for on-road performance.”

Stellantis Korea held the launch event for the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4Xe, the plug-in hybrid version of its flagship SUV, on December 7 at the Walkerhill Hotel in Gwangjang-dong, Seoul. The Grand Cherokee 4Xe is Jeep’s second plug-in hybrid model following the Wrangler 4Xe, leading the way for the brand’s electrification.

The exterior resembles the Grand Cherokee L, which was released last year. The Grand Cherokee 4Xe (4,910×1,980×1,790mm) is 310mm shorter than the Grand Cherokee L (5,220×1,975×1,795mm). The wheelbase of the Grand Cherokee 4Xe (2,965mm) is also 125mm shorter than that of the Grand Cherokee L (3,090mm).

The Grand Cherokee 4Xe combines two electric motors, a 400-volt battery pack, a 2-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, and an 8-speed automatic transmission. The 4Xe boasts a total system output of 272 horsepower and a maximum system torque of 40.8 kg.m. The driving modes available are hybrid, electric, and e-save, allowing users to choose according to battery charge levels.
