Volvo Trucks Korea Unveils the Enhanced Euro 6 Step E with Fuel-Efficient Innovations

Volvo Trucks Korea has introduced the Fuel Save engine designed for enhanced fuel efficiency and environmentally friendly performance, along with the faster gear-shifting I-shift gearbox.

The new D11 eSCR engine system, known as Fuel Save, aligns with the Euro 6 Step E standards, maximizing performance and fuel efficiency while incorporating an environmentally friendly SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) system to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Several key components of the engine have been improved to elevate fuel efficiency to the next level. The efficiency of the variable air compressor introduced in 2019 has been enhanced, reducing noise and weight compared to the previous compressor, while increasing the alternator’s capacity from 120A to 150A, delivering higher output and extended lifespan during idling. Additionally, the new variable electronic steering pump effectively regulates oil flow electronically.

With improved accuracy in injectors, camshafts, piston bowls, and oil pumps, along with new patented waveform design pistons from Volvo Trucks, the fuel and air mixture ratio is optimized, thereby maximizing combustion efficiency. The height of the pistons has also been lowered and the conrod length extended to further reduce friction losses during the combustion cycle and decrease overall engine weight.

The new I-shift gearbox, equipped with the latest optimization software, features a new control unit and microprocessor. This ensures powerful acceleration performance, smooth gear shifts, and a seamless driving experience while contributing to improved fuel efficiency when paired with the new D11 Step E engine.

This engine is equipped in all 11-liter engine vehicles released after the end of September.

Park Kang-seok, CEO of Volvo Trucks Korea, stated, “Volvo Trucks continuously invests in research and development based on a customer-centric approach to enhance profitability for our clients. With the newly applied Euro 6 Step E update in the Step E era, we hope our customers can maximize fuel efficiency, which is directly linked to profitability, and enjoy a differentiated experience. Volvo Trucks has established a vision to achieve 100% carbon neutrality in global sales by 2040. Accordingly, Volvo Trucks Korea will actively strive towards achieving carbon neutrality through differentiated technology and services.”
