Unveiling the Ferrari SP51: A Masterpiece of Bespoke Design

The new one-off model from Ferrari, the ‘SP51,’ was unveiled today. Joining the ranks of Ferrari’s most special and distinctive models, the SP51 is a bespoke vehicle crafted perfectly to meet customer requirements, showcasing the pinnacle of Ferrari’s customization.

The SP51 is a front-engine V12 spider based on the layout, chassis, and engine of the 812 GTS, designed by the Ferrari Styling Center under the direction of Chief Design Officer Flavio Manzoni. One of the most striking features of the SP51 is its lack of a roof.

This design not only emphasizes sporty characteristics but also captures the joy of open-air driving and visual satisfaction, showcasing the true essence of a roadster.

Every aspect of aerodynamics has been meticulously refined through CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulations, wind tunnel tests, and vehicle dynamics evaluations. As a result, the SP51 offers ultimate comfort. Furthermore, it provides the same level of auditory comfort and airflow feel as the inspiring vehicle, the 812 GTS.

The SP51 is both powerful and harmonious. Its muscular body features curves that connect fluidly, presenting a modern, smooth, and sensual appearance. This is achieved through extensive use of carbon fiber both inside and outside of the vehicle. The dynamic hood trim that wraps around the two air vents is also eye-catching.

Another appeal of the SP51 is the new Ferrari color, Rosso Passionale, a three-layer paint specifically developed for the SP51, adding elegance and commanding authority to the vehicle. Additionally, a livery inspired by the legendary 1955 Ferrari 410 S flows from the hood to the rear and is also applied inside, reinforcing this impression.

The specially designed headlamps grab attention with their striking appearance, imparting a strong identity to the vehicle. The wheels are also uniquely designed. Each spoke of the wheels features a carbon fiber wing profile, and the intricately detailed tone-on-tone diamond cut finish at the front is one of the new elements created specifically for the SP51.

The rear of the vehicle is dominated by an arch that wraps around the rear lamps beneath the spoiler. Two flying buttresses immediately behind the cabin provide a visually soft impression thanks to two carbon fiber scoops. Between these two elements, a carbon fiber wing horizontally spans, with the wing profile tucked over the buttresses. This elegant design recalls Targa-type vehicles and pays homage to early 1960s Ferrari sports prototypes.

Throughout the careful manufacturing process, where customers participate at every stage, the apex is reached with an interior that maximizes craftsmanship and creativity. The interior is built around two ingenious ideas. The specially developed Rosso Passionale color for the vehicle exterior extends to the Alcantara trim inside.

The livery of the exterior also continues inside, maintaining consistency. White and blue stripes are applied to the center tunnel and fascia between the two seats above the engine firewall, as well as to the wheel stitching. This seamless implementation of continuity enhances the roadster architecture.

The door panels, lower sections of the dashboard, and sides of the seats are specially finished with blue Kvadrat fabric featuring white cross-stitching to complete the livery. The matte black Nero Momo Opaco elements harmonize with the glossy carbon fiber trim applied extensively throughout the interior. Furthermore, white embroidered details of the prancing horse logo and automobile logo, including on the lower rim of the steering wheel, add sophistication and elegance to the interior’s overall style.

The Ferrari SP51, a one-off vehicle, is a remarkable reinvention of the first front-engine V12 spider from Maranello in 50 years. While beautifully inheriting the elegance of the 812 GTS, this model wholly transcends the limitations of the 812 GTS, offering a completely new way to enjoy open-air driving.
